Alas, poor auctionite, GeekBay has retired!

GeekBay is Geek Culture's blatant attempt to jump on-board the online auction craze. It's a place where geeks can sell their geeky stuff to other geeks. Better yet, it's a place you can surf around to see what other geeks are trying to unload.
  • Got an old computer? .... use GeekBay!
  • Got an old calculator?.... use GeekBay!
  • Got an antique slide rule? Keep it, they are really valuable!
  • Got something weird you just want to get rid of, but are too embarassed the trash collectors might see it?... hey, use GeekBay!

So go ahead, check out the stuff, make a bid, perhaps snag something really cool. Maybe even sell something yourself!

But most of all, work yourself up into an on-line bidding frenzy!

Need more info? Here's the GeekBay's FAQ:

What currency is the norm on GeekBay?
If there's no currency mentioned, prices are in US dollars. If you wish to sell in another currency, be sure to mention it when you list your item.

Who uses GeekBay?
Anyone can use GeekBay to sell almost anything., but we'd prefer it if you were a geek selling really geeky stuff, cause that's the kind of stuff we like to buy. :-)

Does it cost anything?
Nope! If you already have a computer, a browser, and Internet access, it's totally free. If you don't have any of these, and cannot get access to any of these, then perhaps a real life lawn sale would be more approriate for your selling needs.

Does it actually work?
You bet! GeekBay is a fully functioning on-line auction thingy, that anyone can use to sell their geeky stuff, or buy other people's quality junk, or peer into the minds of geeks trying to unload their geeky stuff.

How does it work?
Submit an item, set a price, set the bid details, then surf back and watch the on-line buying frenzy! If you're a real geek and super cool, and want to get chicks, make sure you add a picture of your geeky goods. You can do this by adding an html link to the image when you post your item. If you don't know how to do this, consider the fact that you may not be geeky enough to fully enjoy the full GeekBay experience.

How do I conduct a safe transaction once the auction is over?
GeekBay suggests that you have contact on a more personal level with the seller before you send money. The best way to do this is to ask for, and provide your own, telephone number when you receive an e-mail announcing that the auction is over and you've sold or bought an item. You can then speak to the seller and arrange for the easiest way to complete the sale. Or if you're a geek, I'm sure you'd rather just exchange a few emails.

Is the person I am buying from reliable?
Ultimately, that's for you to decide. We are sorry but we cannot guarantee the quality of either the people using GeekBay or the items being sold. But, we can say with confidence that geeks are traditionally some of the most trustworthy people around. Usually. Most of the time anyway.

Can I remove an item I have already listed?
If you want to remove your item, for whatever reason, do this:
Send us an e-mail detailing the item number, description, your username and the reason for removal. If everything is satisfactory you will recieve return confirmation that the item has been removed.

If your item has received bids:
Send us an e-mail detailing the item number, description, your username, the username of the current highest bidder and the reason for removal. We will then forward the e-mail to the highest bidder and, on their agreement, the item may be removed. If, however, the user will not retract their bid, then you are bound legally to sell the item to the highest bidder assuming that the highest bid exceeds the reserve you set.

GeekBay's Rights To Terminate.
You agree that GeekBay, in its sole discretion, may terminate any auction or use of the service immediately and without notice if (a) GeekBay believes that you have acted like a jerk, or (b) if GeekBay believes you have violated or tried to violate the rights of other users.

Your Conduct.
You are solely responsible for the contents of your transmissions through the service. You must ensure that your participation in the selling or buying of items does not violate any applicable laws or regulations. By this we mean that you must check that you entitled to sell or buy the relevant item and that you are not prohibited from doing so by any law or regulation, or your own morals. In particular, you may not sell or buy property which requires a written contract, which is illegal, which requires a license to buy or sell (for instance firearms, alcohol, or pharmaceutical drugs, or pirated software). Alien artifacts excluded.

Deadbeat Bidder Policy
Deadbeat bidding, defined as winning an auction but not following through with the transaction, deteriorates trust within the geek community, and is therefore frowned upon big time. Sellers who list auctions and receive bids expect the bidders to follow through with the transaction. If you bid on an item and your bid is accepted by the seller, you are obligated to complete the transaction. Bidders reported for non-payment face warnings and suspensions, sand kicked in face, and bad vibes. Evil geeks who post stuff that they have no intention of actual giving up are also cursed. Those geeks who, after foolishly auctioning off a precious piece of their geekosphere, have a complete panic fit and beg and plead that they can't live without their whatever, will be treated on a case by case basis.

What if there is a valid reason I was unable to honor my bid(s)?
We do realize that sometimes there are extenuating circumstances in which it is necessary for a bidder to back out of their obligation once an auction ends (bidder becomes ill, death in the cpu, civilization collapses, and so on). For this reason we may let you off the hook, however, we retain the right to tatoo your forehead with the words
"I wimped out on GeekBay".

Any more questions, just fire off an email...

Note: GeekBay is in no way shape or form related to eBay, which is used by way more people, but is not nearly as geeky.
